Queen

Queen with Female worker bees.

The queen is larger than the other bee.

Her only duties are laying eggs ,
characteristics of the colony,
and the morale of the colony,
(by sharing her pheromones).
The worker bees like to surround her.

It takes 16 days to make a Queen.
Going from egg, larva, pupae to queen bee.
She lives lives about 3 years years,
and is replaced as necessary.

Interesting things we had happen with queens this year.

1/We gave a colony some honey frames and found the queen on the LID.
Put her back quick .

2/We had a nuc being robbed. It looked hopless ,we took it apart . That evening she (the Queen was found in a cluster on front of the next collony), in the rain.
The bees were shook in a box and combined later.

3/We had one fly away when we tryed to cage her.
Did not go home.

4/ A virgin flew into our breeder collony and killed all our cells.
not funny.
